After my time in Panama, I have gained a lot of insight into their business culture and culture as a whole. It was really interesting to see how Panama conducts and deals with business in comparison to the US. Outside of business, engaging with people overall was also a really compelling experience. Though there was a language barrier most times, I enjoyed the people I met – everyone was very friendly, and I did not feel like an ?outsider? during my trip. I was able to learn a lot and have fun at the same time. Meeting with the various businesses, gaining knowledge on Panamanian culture, and traveling around Panama was incredibly beneficial to myself and learning. I did not have many expectations going into this trip – not in the bad way of course, just in the sense of wanting to be open to the upcoming week. I made a few impressions on the first day, such as noting the said language barrier and how good the pizza down the street from our hotel was. Apart from that, my impression built as the days passed. The rich, culture-filled history made me really appreciate current day Panama because I was able to learn how they got where they are today. The high-rises and interesting architecture awed me after seeing the ruins from hundreds of years ago. Visiting the Panama Canal also gave me a few long-lasting impressions. It was really interesting to see such a pivotal part of international trade in real life. Seeing a boat actually go through the locks brought together what we learned in class and the real world. After this trip, I definitely have a well-developed impression of Panama. Panama is an epicenter of trade, business, and fun in one country. My time aboard with RAP will be remembered fondly!
