When I heard that we were going to Panam? my first impression was, ?I can?t wait to eat.? I am a foodie so I love trying new foods and could not wait for Panam? to be the first place I have ever traveled. From the food that I have eaten so far, I can honestly say the fried plantains are my favorite, I need to learn how to make them myself!
I?ve always been an adventurous person at heart but always cautious to act on it, I finally got the courage to once I heard of the opportunity. I want to see what the world has to offer.
There are many comparisons and differences between Panam? and the United States. I would say the biggest difference would be of course English is their second language while Spanish is the first. I don?t know Spanish, perro yo apriendo! Another difference is that many residents in Panam? City do not own their own vehicle, people take advantage of Uber and taxis here. Many essential places tend to be within walking distance of a living area, however, if you want to go to the mall, a nice restaurant, or sightseeing then you have to take a taxi. As far as comparisons go, I noticed that Panam? tries to integrate food from other countries just as the United States of America does. Panam? has a lot of Colombian/Panamanian food options just as the U.S. has American/Mexican or, like in Texas, TexMex.
From this experience, I hope to gain stories to tell from this global opportunity. Stories to look back and laugh and stories to look back and smile. I have never been outside of Texas before, the anxiousness I felt for this trip was a feeling I will not forget. Panama City is a beautiful and aMAYSing place that I think everyone should see in their lifetime. I am grateful to have had this opportunity and this will not be my last abroad trip, but I?m glad my first one was with my wonderful RAP group! This program has blessed us with experiences, support, and a chosen family.
