The Europe Technology Management Study Abroad Trip was an incredible experience that not only exposed me to the advancements and innovations in the field of technology but also provided a deep appreciation for the rich and extensive history of Europe. Throughout the trip, I was fascinated by the culture, history, and transformation of each and every city, from Paris and Strasbourg in France, Munich in Germany, and Salzburg in Austria. One of the most intriguing aspects of the trip was the open discussions about World War II and Hitler in Germany. It was a stark contrast to my previous experiences, as Germany openly confronts its dark past and acknowledges the atrocities committed during that time. It was a humbling experience to visit places like the site where Hitler was arrested, which reinforced the importance of understanding history to prevent the repetition of such horrific events. Exploring various historical landmarks in Europe, such as the Notre Dame Cathedral, further emphasized the impact of history on the present. Many of these iconic sites had undergone reconstruction due to destruction during World War II. It was a reminder that while we appreciate their beauty and significance today, they have often been shaped and rebuilt over time. The historical footprints left by significant events and iconic figures only read in textbooks, such as the Romans and Ottoman empires, the 30 Years War, King Louis, and Napoleon were behind most tours we visited.

The company visits were intriguing, particularly the visit to Schneider Electric, a multinational company rooted in France but with a global presence. Observing their innovative approaches and sustainable solutions, ranging from hardware to software, inspired me as a tech enthusiast. Witnessing the emphasis on sustainability and renewable energy in European companies, including the electric bus procurement company in Munich, highlighted their commitment to building smarter, greener cities. It made me contemplate the future of human-machine collaboration, as we saw how robots were extensively used in the BMW plant and raised questions about the allocation of tasks between humans and machines. The trip also broadened my perspective on the importance of sustainability and renewable energy in the context of building smarter cities. Witnessing companies like Schneider Electric and the electric bus procurement company in Munich embrace these principles was inspiring, and it motivated me to further explore the intersection of technology and environmental consciousness.

Reflecting on the trip, I realized that there is still so much more to explore and discover in Europe. The desire to revisit the smaller art museums, wander through flea markets, and explore the natural landscapes in places like Salzburg continues to grow. Each city and region has its own unique charm and treasures waiting to be uncovered.
