It feels odd now that my experience in Milan is behind me. I’d spent so long planning and counting down the days until my flight, but now I’m on the other side of that. The classes really resonated with me. I loved learning about vastly different topics such as contemporary art and accounting for M&A activity. All the things I learned will help me grow as a person and in my career.
When I first arrived in Milan everything felt so alien to me. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that what feels normal and intuitive in Texas/United States isn’t always how it is in other places. It took me a bit of time to get comfortable in this new place especially because at first, I didn’t really know too many people. Thankfully the school felt very welcoming, and I was able to make friends I never would have met if I hadn’t flown halfway around the world.
Milan is a dense city every corner hiding history and novelty. The beauty of the Duomo Cathedral always caught my eye no matter how often I passed by it. However, when I look back at my time here it won’t be the monuments, I remember the most, but rather the people I was with. Bocconi University attracts students from all over the world. Many like-minded people who want nothing more than to explore and make the most out of this experience in Italy. I’ll remember fondly the Christmas markets trying foods and snacks with friends, everyone picking out gifts for their own families back home. Visiting coffee shops and eating way too much pasta for one lifetime, it’s all part of the Milan experience. My trip was successful because of the people I met, and I guarantee that there is always enough happening in Milan to always have something to do. One of my few regrets was never watching a game played in San Siro stadium, so I’ll leave that for my next visit one day.
