What started as an impulsive decision to apply for the Adam C Sinn?00 Investment Management Trip turned out to be the best experience of my life. For the past two and a half weeks, I had the opportunity to learn about various financial institutions from our very own Washington D.C. to the UK, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, and France.
Our 15-person class visited both private and public sector firms, exploring both sides of possible career paths. If you told me a year ago that I would be asking Paradigm Capital how they find undervalued companies and JP. Morgan Geneva how they manage their client relationships, I would say you were crazy. We had the opportunity to peek into the lives of so many individuals and learn about how/why they?re where they are now. At one point, going to 4 companies in one day, this fast-paced trip has been the experience of a lifetime. I?ve learned so much in the past two weeks and I can?t wait to apply it to my future career.
One of my favorite visits was Clearwater International located in Paris, France. At this company, we had the great pleasure of meeting a former Aggie, Laurence de Rosamel. Not only did we learn a great deal about boutiques, we learned about the importance of corporate culture. Outside of the company, I found Laurence to be an ideal role model. She?s the only female executive in her branch and has all the qualities of a strong, successful leader. Her dedication to her job and her hard work is incredibly motivating.
Although it seemed as if we were always in business professional, we had the opportunity to explore the different cities we were in before/after our visits. From hiking up Mount Pilatus in Switzerland, running around the Paris metro station, to escaping a herd of Camels in Brugge. Learning about new cultures and the way the other side of the world conducts business has truly been an eye-opening experience. I can confidently say now that I?ve gained a global perspective and I can?t wait to see where life takes me next. If you need a sign to study abroad, this is it!
