Hello! My name is Mathew Philip, and I am studying abroad in Iceland this May! When we landed my initial reaction could be described as stunned. The air felt crisp, and the breeze was super strong as we stepped out of the airport. The Icelandic people greeted us with comfort and care and our guide Christopher immediately took the lead and showed us the way to the hotel. We started to learn about Iceland?s history and how the geography of the country came to be, as well as some of the cultural aspects of Iceland. We spent a lot of time trying new foods the first week as well as exploring different parts of Iceland?s Geography. I have now seen things like waterfalls, geysers, and so many mountains. It is truly such a beautiful country and I just do not want to leave. The nightlife in Iceland is also amazing. I have met so many local Icelandic people, and they are all so kind. Some locals even went with us to watch a soccer match. Having discussions with the locals and business owners is really opening my eyes to how things are in Iceland. I am learning many different perspectives from the older and younger generations. It?s given me insight into why people love Iceland and why they do what they do here. More importantly, I have made so many friends on this trip. All my fellow students have been so welcoming and kind as we have experienced this new land together. We can all have fun on whichever excursion we go to as well as just hang out at any time of the day. We can rely on each other to keep each other safe and always know we have a friend there for us. It?s been such a great first week and I cannot wait for the rest of the trip!
