I?m 4 days into the program. I?m absolutely loving this so far. This is my first time in all of college (being finished with my sophomore year, you would think I should have already done this before, I know) being dropped into a completely new group and making GENUINE connections. That?s really the best part of this so far. The fact that I?m going back to college with 18 new characters of friends. Everyone absolutely cracks me up in their own way. Then when you get to the fact that we?re in Iceland, and everywhere we look is breathtaking. I have taken photos of the ground, just because I think the way the moss looks on the rocks is really nice. I?ve already seen the biggest waterfall I?ve ever seen in my life, the little puffin birds, mountains, glaciers, magma, I could go on, and we?re only 4 days in. The weather is something to mention, it?s been no warmer than 50 degrees F, but I?m getting used to it, and I?ve been walking around with just one long sleeve shirt on at a time. It can get fierce however, as I just got back from a power plant excursion where the wind was blowing very strong, and rain was pouring? the heat waves of Texas don?t compare to this. Then I could talk about the culture? it?s another experience I?ve never had before. Talking to the locals is a blast, they are extremely nice here, speak good English, and seem to enjoy it. They say that they don?t necessarily want Iceland?s population to get bigger, but they love talking to tourists because of the small population size. Everyone sort of knows everyone. I would say the highlight of the trip so far was last night, going out to a local bar for the Champions League semifinal, and having a few beers with the whole group, some locals, and some Norwegian tourists here for a wedding. I cannot wait for what?s more to come, do not think 9 days left is enough (we?ll check again in 9 days), and will check back in once more in a week or so.
