Hotdogs – Tiffany Nguyen

2023, Faculty-led and Field Trip Programs, Iceland, Iceland Sustainable Business, May / May 18, 2023 by Mays Abroad

The hotdogs in Iceland are awesome! I love walking up to the church to get them. They?re only 600-1000 krona, so they range from $3-7. I love the hotdogs so much that everything is being measured in hotdogs now. Want to buy a scarf? That?s ten hotdogs. Want to buy a cup? That?s three and a half hotdogs. If you come to Iceland, you definitely need to try them. Iceland is relatively expensive, but these hotdogs aren?t! Everyone can enjoy them! They have an allergen menu inside of the hotdog stand, so if you have a gluten allergy, they can accommodate you. There?s even a vegan dog! Before coming to Iceland, I didn?t realize how popular hotdogs were. I envisioned eating lots of fish that lacked flavor, but Iceland had a wide variety of foods available. Many cultures were present in their cuisines, and I was pleasantly surprised. 20% of Iceland?s economy is fueled by the fishing industry, so the lack of fish eaten was surprising. If you ever get the chance to go to Iceland, go in with an open mind, and get ready to enjoy some hotdogs!
