Howdy! My name is Lindsey Hebel, and I will be in Reykjavik, Iceland for two weeks. I am currently having the best time, and cannot wait to spend another week here. While I am here, I hope to gain a better insight into the different ways of living around the world. I have lived in Houston, Texas my whole life, and love to travel to new places and learn about how they live on a daily basis. It still blows my mind every time I am in a new place how differently they work, eat, socialize, etc. I have noticed many cultural differences between here and the United States. One difference I noticed is that Americans are much more competitive and care way more about money than Icelanders do. Iceland natives care more about peace and treating everyone equally. They also have a very chill cultural here, and for the most part, just mind their own business. I found it interesting to hear that they do not use acronyms here, and call their doctors by their first names. Iceland as a whole also consumes much less than the United States does. They recycle more and have smaller portions. Some little things I noticed while in Iceland that are different than the United States are they charge for bags at most places, they use recyclable bags if you do choose to buy one, and they have gender-neutral bathrooms. They also walk to most places around the city, so there are not as many cars on the roads. Iceland is so much smaller in population than the United States, so I have to keep reminding myself to adjust the scales of things. Iceland is doing a great job with efforts to be sustainable and make the world a better place for the future.
