We have now been in Barcelona for about 4 days. It has been a crazy and packed 4 days, but I have loved it so far. The business school here is honestly incredible and so adequate. Our Spanish professor is well equipped and very knowledgeable about her subject. We are studying the European Union and how it all operates efficiently and effectively, and it has been fascinating, to say the least. In America, we rarely actually learn about the European Union and don?t even think twice about it. However, I have learned how intricate, complex, and relevant the EU really is. I am very excited to continue to learn and grow in my understanding and fascination with the EU.
The city and country are so vastly different from America but in the best way. The culture and people here are very slow-paced and value a peaceful and more restful way of life. Spain has siestas every day in the afternoon for multiple hours where most businesses shut down for a few hours and then open back up again later. I could never imagine this happening in America, especially with how much of a workaholic culture that we have created. The people here in Barcelona are also so kind. Very rarely do you see disputes and such. Most people mind their own business and continue on with their day. The shops and restaurants also create an element of leisure and peace. There are small cafes at every corner which are cheap and homey. They are fun to venture into and try a pastry or a small coffee. In America, cafes and shops are so much more spread out so you have to be very intentional with where you choose to go. Overall, Barcelona is a beautiful and intriguing city/culture, and it definitely gives me some things to consider when I go back home.
