The first few days being in Costa Rica have been a blast! Having spent a couple of days in Heredia, Costa Rica, and a couple of days in La Fortuna, this has truly been an amazing experience. Starting in Heredia on Sunday, we had the opportunity to meet our host families, learning about what their experience in Costa Rica has been over the years. I will say I was nervous meeting my host family whom I would be living with for 2 weeks, however, it is 30 seconds of nervousness and a lifetime of memories!
My initial impression of Costa Rica is wow! I can’t believe how perfect the weather is here, with sunny skies and a light breeze everywhere. We started with a market tour in downtown Heredia, where we tasted various Costa Rican fruits and cuisines. This was a great start to the trip diving right into the culture of Costa Rica. In addition to the market tour, we learned traditional Costa Rican dances, which were a bit challenging for me to pick up fast. After spending a couple of days in Heredia, we traveled to La Fortuna to see the Arenal Volcano where we zip-lined, swam in a waterfall, and climbed many stairs!
For the remainder of the study abroad, there are various activities and lectures to learn about marketing and how business is conducted in Costa Rica. From a chocolate tour, coffee tour, school visit, volunteering and, guest lectures, I am excited to continue learning about this amazing country.
Overall, I couldn’t recommend studying abroad in Costa Rica more! Considering it has only been a few days in this beautiful country, I am excited to see what else this study abroad has in store for us!
