It has been almost a whole week in Lisbon and I have been enjoying every moment here! All of the fun memories that I am making makes all the hassle to get here all worth it! So for this week, we are staying at a hotel in Lisbon but we have been traveling to surrounding areas also either by public transportation or by our trusted bus driver Alfonso!
We started our time here by going on a walking tour of Lisbon and getting to ride a tram! On the tour, we got to see bits of the culture and history here in Lisbon including St. George’s castle! We also got to visit other areas like Sintra and Cascais which showed us more beautiful areas of Portugal. Also, we have visited cork and olive oil farms and learned how those farmers run their businesses and what methods work for them. They have given new insight and it is interesting to see what they prioritize. We also got to taste some award-winning olive oil! Also, Dr. Panina assigned each group an industry to research and since olive oil and cork were some of those industries, we got to hear from our fellow students on this trip and learn some fun facts about them! One of the things that Portugal is known for is the Pastel de nata, or custard tart, and not only have I had some, we actually got to attend a cooking class and learn how to make them! Now I don’t know if I could make it as good as they do but it was pretty good!
Throughout the trip we have been learning so much from Paula, our tour guide and I have learned so much about the history and culture of Portugal already and I cannot wait to learn more in the coming days! Also please follow @mayscibs to join me on my adventures!
Ciao!
