This past week has been filled with amazing meals and such great memories! I think my favorite meal I had this week was sushi. On the walk to school, there is an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant that I had been wanting to try and I finally got to try it. Everything I ordered was amazing! Everything from the veggies to seafood tasted so fresh. This week we also went to the beach, of course. I think the beach is gonna a place I go to at least once a week. I feel like I have to take advantage of the fact that we live so close to some beautiful beaches.
This weekend, a few of the girls and I went to Madrid. We did not have as much time as I?d wish in Madrid. However, the little time we did have was filled with so much fun. We walked around the Royal Palace of Madrid and got to see an amazing view of Madrid. We also got to see the Crystal Palace which was so cool and unlike anything I had ever seen before. We stayed in a hotel right off of Gran Via so of course, we could not resist and also shopped a bit. Based on what I got to see of Madrid just this weekend, it seems that Madrid is a little bit more modern and more city than Barcelona. It could have just been the area we stayed in but I feel as if Barcelona is trying to preserve the older Spanish atmosphere more than Madrid is. Another big difference is the lack of Catalan in Madrid. I had gotten so used to seeing restaurant menus in Catalan and trying to decipher what they said. But in Madrid, everything is just in Spanish. I think I like Barcelona a tiny bit better simply just because of the diversity of sceneries. I know this decision may be a bit biased due to the fact that I am comparing a city where I feel comfortable to a city that I only got to see for a few days, but the fact that you can have a beach day, or a shopping day, or a hike day is just unmatched.?
And speaking of hikes, at the beginning of the week we got to visit Montjuic. Boy, did I underestimate that hike/ walk! However, reaching the top was so satisfying and so worth it because we got to see beautiful views of the ocean and the city. On the way back down we missed the cable car. We got to it 15 minutes after it had closed. However, this ended up working out because on the way back down we saw an area that looked like an outdoor restaurant or sitting area. Which turned out to be like a pool where people practice diving and swimming. We stopped to take a break and eat a power snack, and we enjoyed the view.
A random and cool thing that?s happened is two conversations with the cab drivers who took us to and from the airport. When they asked where we were from and we told them we were from Texas they responded with ?No way! Really?? Both cab drivers told us about how they have been wanting to visit the US and specifically Texas. I have always felt so proud of being from Texas, and now being in Spain and hearing people from this beautiful country want to go to Texas just makes me even more proud.?
