Howdy from Costa Rica! My name is Chris Marco, I am a senior finance student at the Mays Business School. My experience in Costa Rica so far has been filled with adventure and fun ranging from ziplining in the forest, exploring hot springs near the base of an active volcano, and getting to experience all of the cuisine Costa Rica has to offer. One thing I noticed immediately about the country and its people was the simplicity of their life style with a strong emphasis on family and living a healthy lifestyle. Being able to live more inland in the middle of La Heredia has provided me with the opportunity to truly be immersed in the culture and experience what it is like to live as Costa Ricans do on a daily basis of which I am excited to continue and learn more about. However that has come with a double edged blade as it has come as more of a culture shock than in my past travels to foreign countries. This past week we had our first lecture for the class we are taking, IBUS 459: Latin American Markets. While the lecture was interesting and very captivating I am surprised to not have had the opportunity to actually apply the skills and knowledge I have developed at Mays and to just continually travel to the university to sit and listen. While we are barely a week in, I greatly look forward to all the other wonderful adventures and new cultural experiences this study abroad trip has in store!
