After very long and eventful travel days, we finally made it to Spain. Over the past few days, we were able to tour the city and learn more about the history of its buildings and people. Of course, we also had to fit in some shopping (go to Zara… it’s a must). I have greatly enjoyed speaking and learning from the people who live here (despite panicking every time I say “hola”). I knew little about Spanish food before arriving here in Barcelona, but I would have to say I am now a major fan. Tapas are amazing (especially patatas bravas).
It has definitely been an adjustment adapting to the culture and practices of the Spanish. I don’t think I can get used to these stairs. I am excited to continue learning from our amazing tour guide, Christina, and visit more places. There is so much history in each building you walk by, and it is amazing to see the people truly care for their city. I have enjoyed slowing down, especially during meal times. Some of my favorite moments so far are ones made during meal times simply chatting and trying new things. In general, Spain is more laid-back. Especially in Sitges, stores close during midday for a siesta and meal times.? Currently, many people are still off from work, spending time with their family, before their children begin school again, demonstrating their emphasis on family values.
Our first company visit was amazing. Miguel held so much love and passion for the vermouth he produced. He genuinely enjoyed waking up every day to work his job. He truly ensured we had the best experience and gave us so many samples.? Despite being a small business, he has been able to expand his reach to Romania through meeting new people and sharing his passion. I hope to be able to enjoy what I do as much as he does.
