Hola a todos!
My name is Estrella Navarro and I’m a senior Management major at Mays Business School. As of writing this post, I will have been in Costa Rica for four days and I loved every minute of it. The country is beautiful! Flying over the mountains and seeing how abundant and green nature took my breath away. The air and the weather are very fresh. I love being able to walk around the city without becoming unbearably hot like I usually do in Texas. The city seems so entwined with the surrounding environment that it is easy to see that Costa Ricans or “Ticos” value the nature around them.
All of the activities I participated in brought out different aspects of the country. I helped redecorate a local school, allowing me to see how different Costan Rican Schools are from American ones. I had the opportunity to explore Britt Coffee and really experience firsthand what an important industry coffee plays for the local economy. I even got the chance to learn how to cook traditional Costa Rican food.
Though my favorite part so far is being with my homestay family. They were extremely kind and welcoming. I am not fluent in Spanish and I wanted to utilize this trip to practice and continue learning another language. My host family graciously helped me with this task. They are extremely patient when fixing any mistakes I make while speaking. I enjoy getting to know them and they love giving me and my roommates tips and tricks to use in the city. We also enjoyed a great game night filled with fun and laughter. I look forward to the rest of the trip and making even more memories!
