The business environment in Spain was a shocking experience. We arrived to our classroom ready to discuss about Miguel Diaz’s business. Our tour guide Kristina greeted the owner of the building with a kiss on the cheek of each side! After that greeting I witnessed, I knew the business environment was completely different from what we’re used to in the United States. For instance, walking around the main plaza I noticed many adults in professional clothing eating outside a restaurant or drinking coffee on a Tuesday afternoon. This is not common in a traditional U.S 9 a.m.-5 p.m. work environment. I learned that the business culture in Spain is more relaxed, and meeting at a restaurant or a coffee shop to negotiate? is common.
On our adventure visiting the company of Miguel Diaz, we visited the wine cellar he had worked hard for in his basement. It was an amazing experience getting to see his hard work in the cellar his family worked hard to maintain. Miguel and Rachel work together in handling orders, preparing the wine, managing social media, and reaching out to potential customers. This experience taught me the business culture in spain revolves around family, patience, and loyalty. Therefore, Spain is a high context culture country.
