My first week in Italy has been amazing! I was shocked to see how calm and relaxed the culture is here compared to home. Everyone seems to take their time, especially at restaurants. Most of the businesses close for a couple of hours after lunchtime and people relax in the early afternoon, similar to a siesta. This time when the day slows down has been super helpful for recovering from jet lag.
Classes have been going well, and we’ve toured some historical sights as a group. I loved going to see the Duomo and hearing about the history behind it. The building was filled with art and we saw the original Pieta by Michelangelo! I’m constantly amazed by how much art is incorporated into the city. We also toured the city center and learned how the Medici family shaped the city over hundreds of years. Overall, I’ve loved every second in Italy, and I’m looking forward to seeing more!
