Entry #2: Embarking on a Journey – Damian Flores

Studying abroad in Barcelona, Spain, this spring was a transformative experience that broadened my perspectives and deepened my understanding of the world. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the vibrant culture, rich history, and warm hospitality of the Catalonian capital. My initial impressions of Barcelona were filled with excitement and curiosity, and as my journey unfolded, these impressions were not only met but surpassed in ways I could have never anticipated.
One of the most enriching aspects of my time in Barcelona was the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. I formed friendships with individuals from Iceland, Austria, France, Australia, Colombia, Tokyo, Shanghai, and many more places. Each interaction provided a unique glimpse into diverse cultures and perspectives, enhancing my appreciation for the global community and the interconnectedness of our experiences.
A highlight of my time abroad was undoubtedly embarking on the Camino de Santiago, a 320-kilometer trail that stretches across northern Spain. I undertook this journey with my lifelong friend, Gabriel, and it proved to be an unforgettable adventure. The Camino was both physically grueling and spiritually uplifting. The breathtaking views, the friendly and welcoming people we encountered along the way, and the heavenly food made every step worthwhile. The Camino de Santiago tested our endurance and resilience, but it also offered moments of profound reflection and connection with fellow pilgrims from around the world.
My initial impressions of Barcelona were filled with the anticipation of discovering a city known for its architectural marvels, such as the works of Antoni Gaudí, its bustling markets, and its lively street life.
