I had an amazing time in the UAE. I was able to learn from the amazing culture there. The biggest thing just learned there was that there is kindness all around us, no matter where we may come from. I know that this experience will help me in my remaining semesters here at TAMU, and in my future career. I also learned the importance of working with those around me. Everyone on the trip came from a different background and brought a different experience and perspective to what information was brought to us. I know that this is the same in any workplace.
One thing that I had heard about the UAE, and more specifically Dubai was that it was very rich, and that everyone had a lot of money. I could see that the country was very nice, beautiful and very well taken care of. I was, however, a bit underwhelmed for what people said. This is not to say that I disliked Dubai, I loved it. It was just that people online may have overstated the wealth of Dubai, from what I saw. An important thing over there are license plates, the lower the number the more wealthy the driver. The lowest plate that I saw was in the 200’s, so up there in weather!
I really enjoyed the hospitality of the people, we where always very well taken care of, offered drinks and dates at all of our company visits, and received cold water at shops we purchased from.
The UAE is an amazing country, and I am excited to use this experience in my future career. I know that working with people from different backgrounds helps me to become a better HR professional, both today and in my future endeavors. I look forward to using this experience to help me be better today, and those around me be better as well.
