When I came across Global Business Brigades at a Mays event, it felt like the perfect opportunity to serve while also getting the chance to travel. Before going on the trip, I only knew very broad things about the country of Panama. However, once I got to the country I felt like I was able to learn much more about Panamanian food, culture, and people. I was also able to grow as a business major by getting hands-on experience with entrepreneurs and helping improve their businesses.
My group had the wonderful opportunity to work with Victoria Wong, a kiosk owner in La Candelaria. We were able to help her improve her inventory recording, make a marketing plan, and offer a few other tips regarding her store. The entire group also made small workshops for the business owners in the area so they could learn more about accounting, customer service and other important things. When we gave her our final deliverable, I felt so overjoyed because I was able to actually help someone with the knowledge I obtained from Texas A&M.
Lastly, I learned that Panama was definitely a country that I hope to visit again. Whether it was my time in Panama City or the rural regions, I was able to meet so many different people who showed nothing but kindness. Even though I had a language barrier, I was still treated with so much warmth and understanding. I can?t wait to return one day.??
