Leading a group to San Jos?, Costa Rica was one of the highlights of my college experience. Our group from Christian Business Leaders was able to combine our mission to love others with company visits and exploring the Costa Rican “ticos” culture. We spent most of our time supporting a ministry called Face of Justice (FOJ), which is dedicated to taking in people who have been rescued from the sex trafficking world. It was eye-opening to see first-hand the trauma that people go through, and we tried our best to make sure that they got the support they need. We had the opportunity to visit a safe house where teenage girls that have been rescued from trafficking actually live and got to encourage them by storytelling and showing them that we love them despite what they have been through.
Despite our main mission effort with Face of Justice, we also got to see plenty of San Jos? throughout the week. It is a fascinating city because it is a combination of 4 major Costa Rican cities that sit in the middle of a valley surrounded by beautiful mountains. The ideal location allows the weather to be near-perfect all year round, which was such a pleasant thing to experience after we left Houston when it was 25 degrees!
So thankful to CIBS and the TAMU Study Abroad Program for allowing us to get an international service opportunity while also getting to learn from international business leaders such as Ryan from the US Embassy and Jos? from Mesoamerica, a leading Latin-American Private Equity firm!
