It’s difficult to summarize such a life-changing and eye-opening experience knowing words will completely fall short. Having the opportunity to visit Costa Rica with a team of sixteen other Mays Business students who all had a united intention to serve others was more impactful than I could have imagined. From visiting a local church, completing service projects, meeting incredible people, and hearing personal stories–some heart wrenching and some full of hope, this trip taught me so much about the world, about other cultures, and even about my fellow Aggies who laughed with me, cried with me, explored new foods, walked new streets, and who selflessly served the community and the people in need that we were around. We partnered with Face of Justice, an incredible organization that supports women and children who have had to endure the evil of sex trafficking. It is one thing to know human trafficking is out there somewhere in the world and another thing entirely to be holding the baby of a fourteen-year-old victim.
I’ve heard it said before when someone is trying to determine what their call is in life, that a need is the call. However, this trip showed me that the call is to love. Love everywhere, everyone, all the time, and the need is the exercising of that call.
For the rest of my life, I will be grateful for this opportunity to gain insight into the horrible world of human trafficking and to have more knowledge on how to be an ally for victims all over the world.
