Howdy! I made it to Hong Kong! I’ve been here for about three full days now and I have fallen in love with this city. It’s everything I had imagined. The university staff is extremely encouraging and made me feel welcome. The first day I got here I was taken away by the beauty of the island. It is an advanced city in the middle of a mountainous, sub tropical climate. The people here are super helpful and made my journey to the school really easy.
Some things I noticed that were different from Texas and the US in general is the the climate here. It is extremely humid and often times foggy. Whereas in Texas it’s just hot all of the time. The views in Texas cannot compare to the beautiful lands for Hong Kong. It is a view I could get use to waking up to everyday. Another thing I noticed that is different from the United States is the way they get around town. They rely heavily on public transportation and it is simply the most efficient way to get around the city. However in Texas, the Majority of people have a car and we just drive ourselves everywhere. Lastly something I noticed that was different was the highlighted view of “family style relationships” meaning everyone here treats you like they’ve known you their whole lives then you’ve only been here for a few days.
Some of my favorite things so far has been getting to know people from all over the world. It has been so educational to learn about different cultures and compare the United States to everyone else countries. Another thing I love is the food. It is incredible here. Everything I’ve tried has been so yummy and authentic. I have also loved the environment the school has created for its students. I’ve found it very easy t get plugged in and make new friends. we’ve already tours some of the local tourist attractions and learned so much about the history of Hong Kong.
Overall I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here and am excited to see what the next few months entail. I am excited to leave here having learned so much and meeting so many new friends from all over the world.
