Living abroad in Spain was such an eye-opening and fun experience. I got to travel all around Europe (Switzerland, France, Portugal, UK, Morocco, etc) and live day to day in the beautiful city of Madrid. I’ve learned so much more about myself and where I would like to live when I am older. Spain is such a social and collectivist country, allowing me to meet many new faces and enjoy the community. Coming from the United States, I think this time taught me a lot about the individualistic versus collectivist society structures and how they can play into everyone’s life. Also, life in Spain is a bit more laid back. Many people work to live, rather than the other way around. It was nice to experience a different way of life. The history and traditions in Spain are also incredibly fascinating. From my initial impressions, I would say it’s still accurate. Being able to live in the heart of Sol and walk everywhere that I wanted or take a 10-minute metro ride was so exciting. It’s such a beautiful country and I would say my favorite place in Europe. I think it’s truly a hidden gem. I can’t wait to return to Spain and maybe even live there again one day. I can’t recommend this experience enough and I have to say I am so glad that I studied abroad this past semester.
