During spring break, I got the privilege of going on a trip to Peru with other members of the organization I am in, Christian Business Leaders. As we were there, we got to go to a coffee shop that was located inside a church in Lima. The coffee shop was called “Velover Coffee.” It was super interesting to hear about the hardships and change of plans that the operators endured to get to the point that they are at currently. It was also super cool to hear their heart behind what they do and what motivates them to keep pursuing it. The next day, we took a long bus ride to the deserts of Ica, where we got to spend a lot of our time at a women’s refuge. This place is called Casa Girasoles. In the refuge, the women make these special chocolates and sell them so that they can keep the place running. The joy that these people had, in the midst of their hardship and suffering, was super inspiring. We could see it in how they completed tasks for their business and in how hospitable they were while we were serving them. I am so thankful for this program for helping make this trip a possibility for me financially!
