As my time abroad here in Dublin is coming to an end, I have had the opportunity to really dive in and immerse myself in Irish business. For the most part, business is business and a lot of the work day is comparably the same. However, I did run into a few nuances during my time here in Dublin. Since I am in the recruitment industry, I spend a lot of my time on the phone talking to the Irish who are in need of jobs. While this is a pretty straightforward process, I ran into some problems trying to cater to our candidates. First off, I am not from the area so it was especially hard dealing with candidates that wished to relocate to a different part of Ireland. Oftentimes people were located or wanted to relocate to an area that I had no idea where it was, which made it hard to help them with what they wanted. Another problem I ran into was understanding people? if you think that the Irish only have one accent, you?re wrong! The Irish are a very fast-talking people with accents varying depending on the county their from. This made things especially difficult as I would ask candidates to repeat themselves two to three times. While these nuances made things difficult during my time at Eirkoo Recruitment, I loved my time at the company and wouldn?t have wanted to spend my summer doing anything else. The international business experience that I was exposed to was priceless and will definitely help me with my professional career.
