I am currently interning in Milan, Italy where we are experiencing extreme temperatures for this early in the summer. On average it has been around 95 degrees, and keep in mind air conditioning is not common here. While Milan is a business-focused city it does not match the fast-paced nature of the US. While they are hard-working and creative, things are done more slowly here. Breaks are common as well as one to two-hour lunch breaks and three-hour dinners. Two things that almost seem like necessities to Italians are cigarettes and espresso. Italians enjoy the simple things in life, namely good wine and pasta. Milanese would probably include good outfits and shopping on that list. I attached a few photos of the fantastic pasta dishes I have eaten over the past few weeks. The food is so fresh and delicious here. With fewer preservatives, grocery shopping is a bi-weekly task. But there is always a market around the corner. One thing I love about Europe is the transportation system. There is always a bus, metro, trolly, or train around the corner.
