After stepping off of the plane, I left Qatar with a whole new perspective. This trip allowed me to learn from a culture I’ve never been around, while also being challenged by the peers around me to grow in my business knowledge. This trip taught me about a new culture, different ways of conducting business, the Business models of the Middle East, and overall how to adapt my life to a whole new atmosphere.
From visiting several different businesses, I was able to evaluate what it looks like to have a company exist in a monarchy, Muslim atmosphere. Before this trip, I was really only educated on the United States and what our economy looks like. But now after this trip, I have learned so much about global business. Companies have to adapt to the business culture they are set in, rather than following the same business model in every county.
Engaging with the locals allowed me to get a real world perspective on what it’s like to actually live in this atmosphere. I learned from their perspective as young adults planning their future and learning about the things that they live day in and day out. I learned about the religion, culture, family styles, laws and so much more from the locals. I was very grateful for their generosity to welcome us with open arms and treat us with so much kindness.
My overall perspective of business has been changed yet also confirmed in what I believe is true about the business world and religion. I left feeling appreciative of what I have here in the US but also with a sense of open-mindedness that I was lacking prior to this trip. I’ve gained memories that I will cherish forever and an experience that has changed my life for the better.
