When I landed in Porto, Portugal, my initial impression was that the terrain in the region we were in was very beautiful. It was very green despite the winter and had a lot more hills than Texas, which made driving on the highway very interesting. Where highways in Texas typically don’t have hills surrounding them, and the grass is dead in the winter, Portugal has a very scenic highway view. When I looked this up, it said it was because of Portugal’s temperate climate and consistent rainfall throughout the year. The region we were in (Douro Valley) is known for its wine production, and the hills and climate are perfect for this. Porto had a lot of tiled churches, showing the importance of religion in the country as well. It was on the river, with many authentic Portuguese restaurants to choose from. In the restaurants, the waiters were very kind. The person who drove us from the airport was also very kind, highlighting that Portugal is known for its hospitality.
