After spending a month traveling across Europe, my idea of a global market was truly changed. There is so much history and diversity across this continent. One thing that I was definingly mistaken about was that the way business is conducted is standard across the globe. Definitely not true. Seeing the norms in European commerce has greatly changed how I think about international business. From perfumeries to casinos, business here is more of an art. One of my favorite parts of the trip was business visits. Seeing a whole new side of commerce. The most interesting place was Lloyd’s of London. It is an insurance house. To be clear, they do not provide insurance, they provide a place for underwriters and brokers to come together to do business. Its origins are what allows it to exist in the market and there is no other business like it. They even helped insure the Titanic. I could have read all about this business without leaving my dorm, but there is nothing like seeing this incredible office in person. This trip has truly opened my eyes. Not only to art and culture, but global commerce. I highly recommend this faculty-led program.
