It’s hard to believe I’ve been in Singapore for almost 5 days now! Since we arrived at Changi Airport, the group has been busy with many exciting and informative activities.
After spending around a full day travelling I was exhausted when we landed in Singapore. However, I was keen to how clean Changi airport was and wondered if that was a reflection of the nation as a whole. I guessed so, and it turns out my hypothesis was correct- one of the largest shocks to me whilst present in Singapore is the cleanliness! Public transportation, parks, shopping centres, and more are nearly spotless with no litter in sight. The lack of muck compared to the states is definitely one of the perks of being in a “fine” city.
Another key point within my first impressions of being in this modern paradise is the efficiency of transportation. Buses, MRT (Singapore’s advanced rail network), and Taxis/”Grabs” are always within a 10 minute wait or walk. The nation is so interconnected with road and rail networks that we rarely need to consider alloting a large period of time to get somewhere when planning. In addition to it’s stark efficiency the transportation is cheap as well. Using the networks regularly over the course of 4 days has only cost me around $20; that’s cheaper than a short Uber back in the states.
Over the past few days the we’ve explored the neat alleys Little India, shopped at the high dollar malls of Orchard Road, enjoyed a sample of Perenankan cuisine, and more. Here’s a few of my favorite aspects of the trip so far:
- Food: Chicken Satay
- Drink: Sugarcane Juice
- Nature Park: Tree Top Walk
- Building: Former Supreme Court
Overall I’ve had a blast the past few days exploring the country and getting a taste of the culture. I cannot wait to see what’s next on this awesome experience!
