Upon arrival my very first impression was the weather here in Singapore. As Singapore sits near the equator, the climate is very tropical and humid as opposed to Texas having dry conditions. So far it has seemed to rain at least every other day, and the rain is very slow and long-lasting. Humidity is the real factor as I don’t think I have gone a day without sweating profusely since landing.
My next big impression was the environment and architecture. To paint a picture, this city feels like a nicer, cleaner, and more advanced New York City. Pretty much no trash or homeless that I have seen, and the buildings are much more beautiful and generally have bigger meaning behind them. Not just tall rectangularly blobs. I am also very impressed with how they implement an immense amount of greenery in this city. There is not a moment, besides underground, where I cannot see a bush or tree. Almost all skyscrapers have mid level or top floor terraces with plenty of shrubs and bushes.
My big impression is how the people act in this city. A lot of times I have felt like I am the loudest in the room while being here. It is generally quiet in most places with a bigger emphasis on respect and keeping to yourself, never being a distraction. I see this as a Pro and Con as sometimes I can be at a place and not hear one laugh.
These were my first impressions of Singapore, and below I have attached a photo of my first morning walk when I got here.
