So far, we have been in Greece for four days and already it has been the experience of a lifetime. My initial impressions of Greece are that it is a country full of intense and rich culture. Just walking around the city, you can see how deeply rooted the culture is with its ancient roots. Currently, we are in Athens and it is truly a beautiful city. We have gone on multiple cultural visits, including the Ancient Agora, the Acropolis, and a tour of Athens. Learning about the ancient Greeks while in Athens is incredibly powerful and holds a different meaning than it would have if we were learning the same information behind a desk in the United States. The Global Business program so far seems like an amazingly well-run program with very qualified people running it. Everything has been put together in such a special way from the hotel, to the cultural visits, and just about everything else. There is no better way to learn about being a global leader than going abroad, and this has already taught me so much more about global business and leadership than I would have ever learned if I had just stayed in the United States. There are a plethora of differences between Greece and the United States. The entire city has a completely different layout and feel than any city in the U.S. has. The buildings, architecture, and feel are unlike anywhere else in the U.S., not to mention the array of historical sites all around Athens. There is not anywhere else like Athens in the entire world, and it truly feels like a once-in-a-lifetime experience to be able to experience all of what we have been.
As the trip continues, I hope to further my understanding of global business, as well as how to be a better global business leader to truly understand that each country does business differently.
