This week has been one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had! We have spent the last week in Athens, Greece right next to the Acropolis. Our hotel was called the Acropolis View because it had the most amazing rooftop with a great view of the Acropolis. We took many city tours and got to see many monumental sites. My favorite part of the trip so far has been getting to meet so many great people. It has been great to take the time to engage in group conversations, inside and outside of the class setting, where we get the opportunity to learn about different opinions and perspectives of one another.
Because I had never been to Europe before this trip, I did not have many expectations for Greece, but there were many things that I found to be surprising or interesting. I know that Athens is very touristy, but I did not expect so many locals to speak English, but it was nice because it made getting around easier. I also found it interesting that it felt like everything there moves at a much slower pace than America. For example, everyone strolls as they’re walking and sit-down restaurants take very long.
I have also really enjoyed the actual class topic itself. Global leadership is so important and it has been so insightful to learn about the foundation of what we know at global leadership today. We learned about the Greek gods and philosophers and I felt so engaged in the material because we got to go and visit all of these amazing sites. We also got to meet with members of the U.S. embassy and hear about what they get to do in their careers. I thought that was such a great experience because it was so insightful.
Overall, this last week alone has been so eye opening for me. It made me realize that there is still so much more to see and experience and now think about what other places I have on my travel bucket list. Which only makes me that much more excited for our next week in Rome, Italy!
