When I first arrived in the country, I was reminded of the hot, humid humidity of Houston but this is something that won’t go away as time has passed. In the almost week we have been here, I have only seen the sun fully out one time as this is the peak of the rainy season. One thing I do appreciate about this weather is that it helps keep the lush vegetation green in its great beauty. This is something that I look at in awe every time because of where I am from, it is very rare.
I was very shocked to see how many similarities there are to back home. Two of the bigger ideas were food and shopping. Not even a 5-minute walk from my accommodation there is a 6-story mall filled with shops and the bottom floor is filled with many food stalls. Walking through and trying to see what there was in the store made me feel like I was at a mall in America. It felt like there were hundreds of escalators that I had been on. Something else that surprised me was the religious aspect of the country. I attended a Methodist church as there were many different options to choose from. Even though I do not attend a Methodist church regularly, it had the same feel as the people were so friendly and I was able to learn a lot from the service.
Even in the little history, the country has when compared to the big scale of the world, there are still many aspects we can use to help get a bigger understanding. Having gone to museums and historical places can help us learn even more than what we may ever know.
The people in Singapore are what make it who they are, many people see us as foreigners but they are still super nice to us. Being able to go place in our groups has helped us get a taste of how life is lived and get a basis before heading into the business information part of our trip.
