It?s my last week in Barcelona and I can hardly believe I?ve been here for over a month now. So much has happened and yet it feels like it went by so quickly. Since I last talked about some of the stuff I had been doing during my weeks in Spain I figured I?d now talk about what I did with my weekends. The first one had me going to the beach of Tossa de Mar on Saturday where I hiked along with the coastline, saw the most beautiful water I had ever seen, and was even stung by some jellyfish before heading home and making the impulsive decision to fly to the island of Mallorca that night as a day trip. There I enjoyed picturesque beaches and coves, rode an ATV throughout the island and went cliff jumping and snorkeling all before noon. It was at that point I had to figure out their public transportation system to cross to the other side of the island in order to visit the famous Cuevas del Drach.
At A&M I am part of the Aggie Speleological Society which has me caving on most of my weekends and visiting a cave in Spain was on my must-do list. Cuevas Del Drach, or “the cave of the dragon,” was the most beautiful natural wonder I had ever seen up till this point, and at the end on the lake within the cave, I got to enjoy a classical music concert that was held there.
The next weekend I went to Munich, Germany where we visited the Marienplatz, residence Munich, and dined at the historic Hofbrauhaus for some authentic German food and drink. The next day I visited Neuschwanstein Castle and Lindendorf Palace which were both built by King Ludwig the Second and were set among the fairytale-like German countryside and Alps. Finally, I took a Third Reich walking tour as Munich was the headquarters of the Nazi party during the Second World War and saw many sights while learning about their historical context.
The last weekend I decided to get a taste of southern Spain and headed to Seville, the capital of Andalusia where I had some of the best food in my life, visited one of the world’s biggest cathedrals and watched a riveting flamenco dance. These weekends, along with the other things I did with my time in Barcelona, such as visiting the Sagrada Familia and Gaudi’s Park Guell we?re nothing short of spectacular and taught me so much about Spain as well as myself while allowing me to have some of the best adventures of my life.
