My first week in Spain was nothing short of incredible. This has been my first trip outside of the U.S. and being able to explore this city and it?s surrounding areas has been unbelievably exciting as well as enlightening. Over the course of my first week I traversed las rambles as well as the gothic quarter seeing architecture, shops, and food unlike anything I had ever seen before. I went to tapas bars and ate authentic Spanish cuisine paired with wine that was as cheap if not cheaper than the water. I learned about Barcelona’s history through the tour of Montju?c and the national art museum of Catalonia. So many experiences and in such a short amount of time helped to really immerse myself in the city and I wake up every day excited for what I I was going to get to see, eat, and experience. Before coming to Spain I had hopes of spending my days sipping sangria at Barceloneta beach as I mistakenly assumed that this was the pinnacle of what the country had to offer. And while I have spent my fair share of time doing just that, it has been far from my favorite experiences on the trip. Exploring the city, marveling at gothic architecture, and trying new foods and experiences has by far been what I?ve enjoyed the most about my time here and I?ve tried to make every day an adventure. Spain has defied and exceeded all my expectations in this regard and I could not be happier with my choice of country for studying abroad. Over the course of the first week of classes I was not idle either. In professor Gundins class we learned about the history of the European Union, it?s reasons for forming, and how many of their economic and social policies work and intertwine. And in Professor Paninas class we discussed the basics of international business including global marketplaces as well as the legal details of engaging in international business. Overall my first week gave me a great first impression of Spain, has allowed me to experience embrace a different way of life, and has given me knowledge of the economic landscape of European countries and I?m very excited to see what the following weeks have to offer me as well!
