I have looked forward to my time abroad for several months and was overjoyed to arrive in my home for the next 5 weeks – Strasbourg, France. On the first day, we had a walking tour of the city where we learned about the history of the town and explored the city as a class. I had never heard of Strasbourg before applying for this trip and was interested to learn that it is one of the EU capitals! We also had a boat tour along the river that runs through the town, followed by a welcome dinner where we had a traditional French meal. My initial thoughts are that the city has beautiful architecture and a rich culture. So far, the main difference I see is that life is lived at a slower pace than in Texas! I am looking forward to our many office visits to places like the European Commission in Brussels and the European Central Bank in Germany. I hope to grow as a person by immersing myself in a new atmosphere and learning about different norms and perspectives of the French culture, as well as business practices in Europe.
