Initial Impressions of Croatia

During my first week in Croatia I learned many things about myself and about the culture of the country. I really felt the density change and the walkability of Dubrovnik. Almost everywhere in the immediate area is not only within walking distance, but also some of the most beautiful scenery that you will find. Being able to live in the area and become a part of the city was something I will cherish and remember forever. One thing that I noticed immediately was that they were extremely proud of their country and rightfully so. Having been through a very difficult war in very recent times has brought the country together in a way which I have not seen before. Hearing first hand stories from people who experienced it was eye-opening. They have such a unique culture and architectural style. It is one of the first things you notice while entering Croatia. Initially, I was confused by the people due to their different demeanor than we Americans are used to. They are very friendly, but in a different way. I am used to the southern hospitality aspects of friendliness, but I quickly began to appreciate a different style of hospitality. Waiters and service people may not smile a lot, but they mean well and will do right by you. Our guides were some of our first contacts and this was a good segue into the rest of our time there. After my first week, I felt very at home and welcomed by the area and quickly came to an understanding of the city. It is one of the most beautiful cities I have been able to visit.?
