Coming to Dubrovnik, Croatia, I had no clue what to expect. However, by just being here for a few days I have quickly made my impressions on this country and town. I have found that the people of this country are extremely proud of their country. Because of the war that occurred here not too long ago, the people are eager to share the stories of the hard times and take pride that their country is now free. They also are very happy to show you the beautiful sights of Dubrovnik. The waiters are quick to give you recommendations of what to do in the city and want the tourists to enjoy their time here as much as they can. Not only are the people here amazing, but so are the views. Dubrovnik has been the prettiest city I have ever been to because of its amazing coastline, unique architecture, and stunning islands. I looked up pictures of what this place is going to look like before I visited, but the pictures do not do this city justice. Dubrovnik offers way more than I ever expected. Some difference I have found between the United States and Croatia is obviously the language. People here learn nearly three different languages in school while we only learn one fluently. It is very nice that the people of Croatia learn English so they can communicate with us but most of them also know Italian and Croatian. Another difference is the architecture. In America, we are not required to all have the same design or look of our houses. But here, every building and house has an orange terracotta roof. It makes everything look the same and gives Dubrovnik a recognizable look. People here also like to get closer to you when speaking, unlike Americans. Often times it seems that they do not know personal space but it is normal for them.
