Before coming to Germany I did not know what to expect, I had only been to Europe one other time before this. German culture is very distinct from the other countries that I have visited before. To begin, the food is very meat and carb heavy. It was not one of my top food choices, I would usually opt to eat a different type of food, especially Turkish food. For there to not be free tap water was also something new, especially since I drink so much water. It sounds like I am being negative about the food, but just with there being some food items I did not like, there were others I really enjoyed. I found my favorite ice cream shop and a really good brunch place. Germans are also very efficient and usually are not content if someone is taking too long. This would happen a lot in ice cream places because I would be looking at all the flavors and be thinking about which one I want but the employees would keep asking me if I was ready. Besides being quick, they are also not as friendly as the Americans. It felt odd smiling and sometimes I would forget and smile at the cashier and they would look at me oddly. As time went on, I realized that Germans may not always be smiling but they are still kind. With the culture being different I have learned how to better understand different perspectives.
When I get asked what my favorite part of the trip was and I always have a hard time thinking of just one. However, I do have some moments that stand out more than others. I really enjoyed going to Austria because of the mountains and activities we did there. I also had a great time in Copenhagen, the city was so nice and I felt very safe to just be walking around. Something that both of these places have in common is that I was able to meet up with friends and my brother. In Austria I met up with some really good friends from Texas A&M and in Copenhagen I met up with my brother. My international experience has allowed me to better understand and develop a global mindset. In my career it will help me better understand and work with others. Knowing how to work with those with distinct backgrounds is crucial to be more inclusive.?As my journey comes to an end, I will save this experience in my memories. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been able to travel abroad.
