During my first week here in Germany, I have already learned so much. Whether that be the classes I’m taking or German culture in general. Munich is a very vibrant city that has a very on-the-go vibe. The downtown square is filled with beautiful architecture, diverse people, and a multitude of shops and restaurants. There is so much history behind each building and area here in Munich, which makes it such an interesting city. The classes I am taking are helping me learn more about the European Union and Germany?s role in this economic and political organization. We are visiting companies as well and through these visits we get to see the supply chain of the company in a factory as well as the history of how they keep themselves running. Overall, I hope to gain a more global perspective of the world throughout my 5-week stay in Germany. This global learning experience will help me understand how to do business within Europe as well as know the cultural implications behind the way they do business here for my future career. Adjusting to life here in Germany isn?t all that different from the United States. The main differences are using public transportation and walking is way more accessible to get to whatever destination you want. Although language can often be a barrier, learning a few common phrases has gotten me by just fine. In terms of culture, Germans tend to keep to themselves and follow the rules. In America, if you cross the street when the hand sign is up and no cars are coming, no one will say anything, but in Germany, you will get looked at funny and even yelled at. Another difference is Sundays in Germany are considered family time and most grocery stores, shops, and restaurants are closed. In America, most shops are open all days of the week or even 24/7. Overall, I am excited to learn more about Germany during my time in Munich and Berlin.
