I have been in Munich, Germany for almost a week now! This city is big, filled with lots of rich history, as well as beautiful sights! One of the main differences from Texas is the use public transportation. Many people here don?t own a car and use bikes, buses, trams, trains, and subways to get around. This has made it very accessible and convenient to travel around the city to different parts of Munich. A surprising change I wasn’t expecting to encounter was that all shops and businesses, except for restaurants, close before 8pm. Additionally, almost everything is closed all day Sunday, so it?s important to remember to grocery shop before 8pm on Saturday. One notable comparison is the taste of food and produce, as they have strict food laws in Germany. They are also very environmentally friendly and sustainable in the ways they live and run their businesses. Another difference in the culture would be the German?s attitude, as they highly value honesty and efficiency. They aren?t unkind, but they tend to keep to themselves and their close circles, not really talking to each other on trains or in public. While in Germany, I am taking Business Law and International Business in the European Union, and it?s been incredible to connect things we are learning to what we are seeing outside of the classroom! We have already been able to visit and see the courtroom of the Nuremberg Trials, firsthand hearing about the impact of this global event. Additionally, it has been interesting to learn about Germany?s history and see how it played a part in the creation of the European Union. Through these classes and excursions, I hope to gain an expanded perspective of global business and culture. I also desire to learn from and be shaped by engaging with people who are different than me during this unique experience!
