Wow, I have not been on a flight for that long; the original 15-16 hour flight was brutal. Luckily, I do not have a problem sleeping on planes and enjoy it most of the time. One of the more exciting things we did while on the overall 24-hour travel journey was have a layover in Qatar for a few hours. The airport felt like a shopping mall, with expensive and lavish designer stores surrounding you. They even had a massive bear with a light on its head with a Qatar airport sign below it. We soon boarded our next 7-hour flight to Singapore. This second flight was much more manageable, and I was luckily able to catch a few more hours of sleep.
We landed in Singapore, and I was immediately taken in by the unusual airport. We were given a few hours to explore the airport and take in the sights. This was hands down the most fantastic airport I have been privileged to visit. The entire airport is centered around a waterfall structure with a jungle surrounding the water vortex. One of the first things I noticed was the change in food; I ate a meat hot pot. This food was an actual change as this was the first time I had tasted something like this. I hope to gain a lot from this trip in terms of learning more about Singapore’s culture. I want to learn a lot more about the food and different cuisine types offered here. I have heard much about “hawker centers” and am excited to try them. One thing I have seen is that people in Singapore prioritize cleanliness much more than those in the United States. Here in Singapore, I always see someone cleaning some of the city. The subways are completely spotless, and I feel safe riding them. So far, I have loved my experience here and cannot wait to see where the rest of the trip goes.
