As I reflect upon my journey to Antarctica I have no other words for this trip than life. When I was little my favorite place to go was the Houston Arboretum, a nature reserve in Houston where I loved spending time in nature with the trees, animals, insects, and silence. As I grew up I lost sight of my passion and cared more about video games or whatever else was fun and immediate. This trip has brought the feeling back and I am forever grateful. As I sat staring at the rock faces, glaciers, seals, and birds for hours during camping listening to the sound of nature I remembered that nature is all that matters and all that will ever matter, and it has truly reoriented my life. I have been thinking since that moment how can I save this, how can I as a leader make people care about saving the planet? I have not found a solution but It is now my life’s purpose.
My goal is to conduct all aspects of my life both personal and professional sustainably. I want to incentivize others to do the same and eventually influence policy in a more sustainable direction. In a direction that is more sustainable for humans and the earth alike. I have begun researching many topics that can help transition our current society to behave more sustainably. I believe I as a leader can make these things a reality in the future.
