My experience on this trip through Argentina to Antarctica was nothing but positive in every facet. The faculty did a wonderful job leading the group throughout, providing positive examples of leadership. The staff on the cruise ship itself were exceptional as well and led their expedition activities with enthusiasm, expertise, and leadership ability.
In terms of sustainability, there were many presentations on conservation efforts in the region and how they are supported. We learned about those who work there for large chunks of the year and how their research is conducted in an environmentally friendly way. The neutrality of the area and the treaties surrounding it were covered as well.
I personally gained a lot from having my eyes opened to the adventure and beauty there is in the world. I thought I was already aware of it, having seen several national parks in the US, hiking, etc., but seeing this was beyond any of that. The trip has inspired me to do more traveling abroad, including hopefully back to Antarctica, all in a sustainable manner so that others may see it too.
