During my trip to Singapore, there were many things I learned; however, one of the things that stuck with me the most was the benefits that came from having strict regulations because that has allowed the country to flourish. For example, it is very expensive to own a car. In addition to the tax on the car, there are also certificates that one must obtain in order to be able to drive the car, which is just as expensive as the car itself. However, they have taken this approach to help reduce the number of cars on their road to decrease their carbon emission. Singapore has a mission to be sustainable, and they believe that to reach that goal they must become environmentally. Although this might seem like a problem to a lot of western people, Singapore has a reliable solution, public transportation. Due to the structure and size of the country, metro stations are easily accessible and inexpensive, or even travel on foot. This is beneficial for the population. In fact, you can assume that this is the main form of transportation. In comparison in the United States where it is very difficult to find public transportation unless you are in a large city but even then, it is not reliable and can be unsafe. As a person who did not have access to my own vehicle, I see the many benefits that public transportation could provide for our population. Now that I have a car the other struggle we face in America, especially in cities, is traffic. Furthermore, our road infrastructure is very poor in some areas. I believe that if we were to implement more public transportation in America, we would need to restructure many areas, but it would be beneficial in the long term. Additionally, this would help reduce the dangers we face on the road.
