Howdy! I?m Ramyani Roy and I just returned from my study abroad in Singapore a couple of days back. It was a great trip, and we got to meet up with quite a few companies while there. As our course focused on technology management and the supply chain, many of my observations centered there. For one, Singapore is a global hub in the supply chain. It?s a very happening nation and there is always something going on. That being said, I think the workforce and clients are incredibly diverse. The U.S. has its fair share of diversity, but there is a larger volume of international clients in this environment due to Singapore?s location and strategic point.
Now, something I thought was a little strange is that no one really shares their educational background. I?m not sure if that?s universal or may be unique to Singapore, but I thought it was interesting because in the U.S. people are quick to mention their alma maters. Lastly, I read that Singapore has ?hassle-free? business setup processes which make it easy to start doing business there. It can be daunting to start your own business, and they do a great job of simplifying the system. This doesn?t mean they have any fewer regulations, however! The nation is known for its many fines and laws to keep everything in order, such as littering and waste disposal.
Outside of international business, it?s a great place to visit. The intersection of several cultures combined with the location makes for a beautiful country with great food. I can see myself going back, although I probably wouldn?t be able to work there long term due to the heat!
I attached some pictures- The first one shows the view from the rooftop of the Marina Bay Sands hotel. I was amazed by just how many ships were near the coast. Another picture shows the mascot of Singapore, the Merlion. The picture of the bowl is of a dessert called “chendol.” This is a signature dish that’s served with a variety of beans, coconut milk, and chendol (green strings). The last picture is of a temple that houses an actual tooth of Buddha!
