Throughout my time in Portugal I realized that many of the businesses there hold different values than those in America. It could have been due to the fact we were hearing presentations that may have been altered, but it appeared as if many of the companies in Portugal have a much more tangible focus on environmentalism. Even the largest companies visited had done things like implement fleets of electric vehicles or had been taking steps to further recycling in the manufacturing process. Apart from that, there was a strong value of tradition and originality throughout both businesses and day-to-day life. Many of the businesses I either toured or just visited during my stay held the fact that they were original Portuguese companies to a very high standard. This extended to the people as well. The local population was drawn to companies and businesses that had a reputation for being traditional or long-lasting. In America, it seems as if most people prefer to do business in places that are convenient rather than original or unique. Overall, most of my initial impressions were upheld. The focus on tradition and originality was not just claims made by guides to tourists and their focus on the environment is much more in-depth than ours is here in America.
